Alice Edwards

Senior Consulting Counsel

Alice Edwards concentrates her practice on derivatives, prime brokerage, custody, netting, collateral arrangements, credit risk mitigation, investment funds, structured finance, and financial regulation. 

Alice has a magic circle background and extensive experience at leading financial institutions in a wide variety of senior roles including new product development, management, project implementation and training. More recently, Alice has advised in connection with FX, prime services, netting and collateral, equity derivatives and exchange-traded derivatives.

 

Alice qualified as a solicitor at Allen & Overy in London where she was a member of the Derivatives team within the International CapitalMarkets Department. She was also a senior associate at Ashurst LLP. While at Ashurst, Alice was seconded to the legal department of Credit Suisse in London, where she spent a year supporting the bank on derivative-related matters.

Throughout her career, Alice has held several senior in-house positions at leading banks, including UBS, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Dresdner Bank and has been a consultant at Barclays, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley. She was Global Head of the Equities Derivatives Legal team at UBS in London.

Alice has also provided consulting support to an FX fintech company and was a consultant at the Financial Markets Law Committee in London, where she conducted research and monitored changes in the law and financial markets.

Alice is admitted to practice in England and Wales. As a solicitor in England and Wales, Alice is personally regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) but practises through Trancura Legal Consulting Ltd, a non-SRA Regulated entity under the rules in force, meaning the legal services offered and the professional indemnity insurance terms will be restricted to reflect Trancura Legal Consulting Ltd is not a firm of solicitors. REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE

 

• Morgan Stanley, supporting the prime brokerage team on all aspects and, in particular, in relation to the European implementation of key aspects of the G20 financial regulatory reform of OTC derivatives, including the Initial Margin Uncleared Margin Rules (UMR) and other tri-party custody arrangements.

• Barclays, on the drafting and on-going advice across various bespoke equity, fund and QIS OTC derivative transactions and structures and support in connection with netting and credit-risk mitigation.

• Goldman Sachs, on the development and negotiation of listed derivatives documentation.

• Credit Suisse, on the migration of its prime brokerage business from London to Dublin, implementation of a bespoke variation margin structure for the prime brokerage business, capital optimisation and equity derivatives.
